Ian Gordon

' Ashlemon Azimuth '

July 5- July 26
2 0 0 8

Opening reception: Saturday, July 5th, 5-8 pm

Ian Gordon is a landscape painter living in the sparsely populated mountains of Donegal in
north west Ireland, where he loves to paint ‘ en plain air ‘ despite the vagaries of the
 restless weather.

He believes the uncertainties of climate are the roots of character. The bonding of person,
place, transient light, captured in canvas, paint or indeed any media...the very DNA of Culture.

On this return visit to Kingston, as Artist in Residence at the New York Trolley Museum,
he is using paint, and pen and ink drawing, to pick up the spirit of the artists of 1908, when
the Impressionist movement was as much a shock as the change from Horse to Car !

As a theme for his Exhibition,  ‘ Ashlemon Azimuth ‘, he is using the tonal spectrum of
shadow, from near black through umber, green , yellow to palest grey, drawing on his skills
 as an experienced colorist.

Ian, who trained as a conceptualist/land artist  in the 1970’s at Wimbledon School of Art,
London, U.K,  returned to painting in the ‘90’s and has exhibited steadily since in Ireland
and elsewhere, including the Pentimento Gallery, Kingston in 2000.
